Let Me Be A Woman
Elisabeth Elliot
This book by Elisabeth Elliot is a quick read that
packs a punch. The book consists of letters from
Elliot to her then engaged daughter. The letters
range from topics of feminism to housework. For any
woman in need of godly wisdom about being a wife,
this book is a must.
Every Woman's Marriage: Igniting the
Joy and Passion You Both Desire
Greg & Shannon Ethridge
An eye opener that shares with the reader the struggles
of everday Christian marriages and then points to
the Word as judge and redeemer. Authors Greg and
Shannon Ethridge do a dynamite job sharing from their
own personal marriage from the rocky past to the
redeemed present. This book is for any woman who
still thinks marriage is simply about happily ever
after and all of the wives who have learned otherwise,
perhaps the other way. There is of course an Every
Man's Marriage as well.
Passion and Purity: Learning to Bring
Your Love Life Under Christ's Control
Elisabeth Elliot
This is the stunning love story of missionaries Elisabeth
and Jim Elliot. Comprised of journal entries, letters,
and Elliot's now more seasoned wisdom, this book
explores dating, courtship, and sexual purity, all
within the context of learning to live solely for
the glory of God. This is the sort of book you wished
you had read before you did x,y, and z. The type
you give to others in hopes that they will heed its
wisdom and live differently, biblically.
The Five Love Languages
Dr. Gary Chapman
Brilliant on the part of Dr. Chapman, this book addresses
the idea that people speak and understand different
love languages. Basically the idea is that when a
couple is speaking different love languages you often
end up with at least one if not both parties feeling
unloved and unappreciated. A rather simple concept,
but something one generally does not dwell on, let
alone translate into book format so that millions
can benefit. This is a good read for everyone because
it isn't just married couples who are concerned about
love. Dr. Chapman also has different versions such
as one for singles entitled The Five
Love Languages For Singles.
Grieving A Suicide: A Loved One's Search
for Comfort, Answers, and Hope
Albert Y. Hsu
A very practical, and biblical approach of how to
handle the loss of a loved one to suicide. The book
is short and continuously points to Christ. The author
lost his father to suicide and so the book is filled
with his own thoughts and reactions as well as others
who have experienced a similar loss.
Having a Mary Spirit: Allowing God to
Change Us From the Inside Out
Joanna Weaver
Full of laughs, yet full of instruction on how to
truly be spirit filled AND led. The book is written
by a very down to earth and realistic Joanna Weaver
. The book includes scripture, real life anecdotes,
a companion devotional guide, as well as basic how
to tips. For any woman who does not quite feel that
she has the holiness thing down to a science, this
is the book. Joanna Weaver has also written a book
entitled Having a Mary Spirit in a Martha
World.
Holiness: The Heart God Purifies
Nancy Leigh DeMoss
This short book on holiness is easy to read but
slow to digest. Nancy Leigh DeMoss puts in very
clear language the mandates of the Bible and their
effect on our day to day lives. She discusses
how everything from the TV we watch to the amount
of time we spend with God ought to be impacted
by our desire to be holy as God has called us to
be.
I Kissed Dating
Goodbye
Joshua Harris
A book that straight forwardly addresses dating and
many of its usual contradictions with the word. Joshua
Harris also briefly outlines the courtship idea.
In his later book Boy Meets Girl,
Hello Courtship he details his own
pursuit and later marriage of his wife Shannon. It
has many helpful tips as well as applicable scripture.
